About Fundnama

A free site for comparing Indian mutual funds and for seeing where NSE indices’ P/E, P/B and dividend yield sit against their own history.

Who runs it

Fundnama is built and run independently by an individual investor, first as a personal tool. It has no ads, sponsors, affiliate links, sign-ups or paid tier, and it isn’t affiliated with any fund house, distributor, AMFI, NSE or media house. Nothing on the site is a recommendation to buy or sell anything.

Where the numbers come from

  • NAVs from AMFI, for every open-ended scheme’s Direct and Regular growth plans.
  • Index values, P/E, P/B and dividend yield from NSE Indices, for every index on the site.
  • Portfolios from each fund house’s monthly SEBI disclosure (HDFC and PPFAS so far).

Everything is refreshed every night and checked before it goes live; if a source sends something that looks wrong, the previous day’s data stays up. More in where the data comes from and how often it’s refreshed.

How the numbers are worked out

  • Returns and risk are calculated from daily NAVs in your browser: point-to-point and rolling returns (CAGR), SIP growth, volatility, drawdowns, Sharpe and Sortino. Each fund is measured against its benchmark’s total return index.
  • Fund histories are joined across AMFI code changes after fund-house take-overs, and bad NAV readings (one-day spikes, face-value changes) are cleaned out. See which funds are included.
  • Index valuations are shown as NSE publishes them. On 31 March 2021 NSE moved index P/E to consolidated earnings, so earlier P/E reads higher; each index page offers an adjusted series and a consolidated-only view. See the 2021 P/E switch.
  • Numbers can differ from a factsheet because of dates, plan, method or benchmark: why.
